Membership Process and Categories

Membership Dues

2009 Membership dues are as follows:

  • Regular/Associate Member $140.00
  • Non-Scientist/Society Affiliate $105.00
  • Student Member $70.00

Membership Categories 

ACS offers four categories of membership plus a Student Affiliate category:
  • Regular/Associate Member - Entitled to member-only subscription rates for ACS journals and a subscription (print and online) to Chemical & Engineering News, individuals must have one of the following:
  1. a degree in a chemical science
  2. a certification as a teacher of a chemical science
  3. or relevant work experience
Note: Associate Members (those who have not yet met requirements for full Society membership) cannot hold an elective office.
  • Graduate Student Member - A full-time graduate student, majoring in a chemical science or a related academic discipline, shall be entitled to a discount of 50% of the membership dues. Special student subscription prices for most journals are available. Please note: Post Doctoral Work is not eligible for the student discount.
  • Non-Scientist/Society Affiliate - Entitled to all Regular Member benefits excluding the ability to vote or hold an elective office. A person who is not eligible to become a member of the Society but whose major vocational effort is directly concerned with the practice of a chemical science may become a Society Affiliate at a dues rate of 3/4 of the member dues.
  • Student Affiliate - Undergraduate students majoring in or interested in chemistry qualify for membership at substantially discounted dues. Student Affiliates receive special student subscription prices for journals.

Discounts 

Graduate Discount - A person graduating with a bachelors degree in a chemical science may apply for membership within one year from the date of graduation to receive a discount of one-half of the membership dues.
