The Greater Houston Section of the American Chemical Society 
is one of 189 local ACS sections across the nation.
 

Established in 1917, the Section serves about 2500 members, consisting of chemists, chemical engineers and professionals in allied fields. The American Chemical Society is recognized as a world leader in fostering science education and research, and promoting public understanding of science.

 GHS Nominated for Two Awards

The ACS ChemLuminary Planning Committee announced that the Greater Houston Local Section has been selected as a finalist for the following ChemLuminary Award(s):

  • Younger Chemists Committee--Outstanding New Local Section Younger Chemists Committee
  • Women Chemists Commitee--Outstanding Single Event Promoting Women

Recipients will be announced and the presentation of awards will occur at the 236th ACS National Meeting in Philadelphia, PA on Tuesday, August 19, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center– Ballroom 113 A-C. The presentations will include awards given by 15 committees of the Society.

Project Seed Benefits Six Local Students

The ACS Project Seed program started at Prairie View University on Thursday June 12, 2008.  

Six local students were selected to participate in the program which opens new doors for students to experience what it’s like to be a chemist. More
